Great espresso at a very affordable price July 9, 2010 Philip G. Davenport (Highmount, NY, USA) The machine arrived in like-new condition. Was able to make a decent cup right out of the box. (Am drinking way too much coffee since its arrival.) My few discussions with manufacturer have been more than satisfactory. Only downside is the Amazon seller, Antonline. Not at all helpful or pleasant.
Breville Roma espresso maker April 19, 2010 JMOC The size and appearance are very nice. All pieces were included and it's easy to use. The only thing I don't like is that there isn't an automatic shut off - you have to watch how much espresso comes out and then turn it off. The part that holds the grounds also holds a lot of water so it's messy to clean up. My last machine applied more steam and the grounds were dryer and easier to clean up. But the coffee is good and I'm glad we moved away from the larger machine we had before this.
Great Expresso Machine April 2, 2010 Debra Houle (MN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading and researching machines and reviews I decided on Breville for the price and the good reviews. Some of the reviews compained about not getting the expresso cups or the jug....I was more concerned about the machine itself and the quality of expresso so I took the plunge with Breville. Ive had this machine for about 1 month and I have enjoyed an expresso or latte almost everyday. Very easy to use and found out thru this machine the crema and frothed milk come out perfectly. I have owned 2 Krups dual coffee/expresso machines....one with steam function , 1 with pump function. Unaware that with both krups my frothed milk would taste over heated. With the breville the frothed milk tastes sweet and perfect mounds of froth, and nice crema which i didnt get with the krups. I have no problem with the expresso grounds in the filter inhibiting the flow of water when making the expresso. In fact I have actually enjoyed just a straight shot of expresso which I didnt enjoy with my krups unit. This is a refurbished unit and it looks beautiful and no flaws what so ever...it came packaged very securely and promptly. I do take care of this machine by following the cleaning recommendations. I always clean out the steam nozzle after each use and clean the filter with the remainder of the water left in the tank resouvier. I havent decalcified yet but will as recommended in the manual.I bought this unit thru [...] on the amazon site. I am hoping this unit will last along time with regular cleaning maintenance. It looks great in stainless steele and it is compact. Iam very pleased!
Such a Deal! March 23, 2010 KGB (Atlanta) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Such a deal!! I can't believe this espresso machine is on sale for around $100!!
I've owned a Gaggia espresso machine that cost over $300 and the Breville Roma is substantially better for one-third the price. First, it's all metal and built like a battleship. It heats up quickly and makes great espresso with plenty of crema. Make sure you get the right grind (the grounds should have the consistency of sand) and tamp the grounds into the portafilter with a bit of pressure. It's really simple.
We have this in our office and we are pulling at least eight shots a day. Even if it wears out in three months, it will have paid for itself several times over. No more afternoon runs to BigBucks coffee down the street.
For everybody complaining about not getting any cups--GET OVER IT! I went to IKEA and got a pair of insulated stainless steel espresso cups for $5.99.
Also, our machine appears to be brand new. It has no signs of wear and worked great right out of the box.
Breville Cafe Roma Expresso Maker-Reconditioned February 14, 2010 Michael (Corona, California United States) I was excited to receive this expresso maker at such a good price. Unfortunately to my surprise the water tank was damaged and leaking. The company who was representing Amazon (sorry forgot name) wanted to ship me a totally new expresso maker but I already had to wait nearly two weeks and that meant I wasn't going to be able to have another for at least that long. I contact Breville direct via email and they sent me a new tank in less than a week. I was pleased.
The expresso maker makes very good expresso... better than I expected. I have a fairly expensive automatic Saeco expresso maker (~$700) and the Breville is nearly as good. I live in two areas and needed two makers. To insure good taste and good creama I make sure that when the temperature light goes off I stop the flow of expresso and wait for it to warm up. This takes longer than my Saeco maker because the Breville's boiler isn't as big or capable. Temperature is very important to good expresso so make sure you do this as well. Good luck and good expresso drinking!
