Value machine. September 1, 2010 techno mave (NY, NY United States) I've had this machine for over a year now and finally getting it to work to my liking.
Rules to follow:
1) use a good bean
2) follow the golden rule "20-25 seconds for double shot"
3) dont fill filter to top, leave some head room
4) steamer is ok, but seems to add more water/condensation than i want
Warning: This machine will explode if you tamp too tightly with fine grind (ie seems to take longer to draw out a shot)
first time i did this by mistake the filter handle exploded out of my hand after trying to draw out the espresso for over a minute
thankfully nothing broke but a surprise indeed!
Great value! August 31, 2010 Katie I purchased this machine about a month ago, to replace the machine in my workplace. It gets frequent use (4+ people make coffee with it at least twice a day), and is working fine. I have a Rancilio Silvia at home, and this isn't of that quality. However, it is easier and faster to use than the Rancilio, and makes far better coffee than a steam-driven machine. Its perfect for a quick coffee, and is easy to maintain with several users. The machine is nice-looking, and the entire body is stainless steel. Its a very good machine for $139.
Very disappointed by Ariete August 8, 2010 cla67 I am Italian and I thought Ariete was a good brand for an espresso coffee maker. I couldn't be more wrong. The Cafe Prestige machine we bought few months ago is quiet loud (the water reservoir and its lid vibrate loudly) and the "non" stainless steel tray got rusty after one week we start using it. By now the tray is horribly ruined. There is no way in USA to have a tray replacement and also in Italy (we tried through the help of my parents) is extremely difficult. I would not suggest to anyone to buy such coffee maker
Not Well Constructed July 25, 2010 Park City teacher (Park City, Utah, USA) I am giving this coffee maker two stars because I'm trying to give the company the benefit of the doubt. The price is certainly right, but the quality isn't. To begin with, the set-up instructions were not accurate, as other reviewers have mentioned. We nearly returned it without making a single cup of coffee, but with persistence managed to get the water tank to seal. Once that problem was solved, we were happy with the coffee that the machine made, although it was NOISY (we hesitate to start the machine if anybody is asleep) and it vibrates like crazy. Within a couple of months of daily use, we noticed that the aluminum on the drip-catch tray was beginning to peel off. We've had it now for a year and a half and while it still manages to make coffee, the steamer shoots at least a 1/4 cup of hot water before you get steam, and the drip-catch tray has nearly disintegrated. I haven't been able to find a replacement tray, so I suppose we'll just wait until it corrodes all the way through and then order a new machine. I'll tell you one thing.. it won't be another Ariete.
Great machine for its price July 24, 2010 wolfgang schnepp We bought this espresso machine about 3 or 4 years ago. Price was the same as it is today and the machine still works fine except that the milk steamer quit within the first year. Otherwise this little machine produces perfect espressos every day for me and my wife (at least 4-5 per day) for all these years. Great little machine that can compare with most other machines out there in the $400 price range...
